I just finished my first year in 6th grade. My biggest piece of advise is to be prepared for ALL types of learners, from non-readers to gifted brainiacs. Get your hands on as many resources as possible that match your curriculum so that you will have variety. I had pen pals last year from another country and that was great. Also, don't try to be the world's best teacher in one year and create everything from scratch. Use the manuals and resources provided to you.
