When you set up your schedule for assessment/evaluations, divide the class into 5 groups and take home each child's stuff once a week. Remember, you won't be dealing with any other paperwork, no worksheets etc. The independence comes from expectations and lots of modeling, by yourself and the other children...also, daily meetings and planning sheets also help. The kids love anything to do with plays/reader's theater, etc. They can write their own, or there are several published that tie in with Social Studies themes. Another thing my kids do for fluency is poetry as well as reading to their Kinder buddies at least once a week. They are expected to have chosen a book to interest their buddy and practice it before going over. There is also a book called, Good bye Round Robin that will help you with other possible lessons for fluency. If you check some of the other posts, you'll see some examples of assessments.
