Independent reading By Debbie
|
| Hi Trish, I choose several that I feel the kids will really connect with for small group text sets and then get single copies of LOTS of others. As you've found, the dialogue with other readers really deepens and broadens their understandings, but they are still reading in other titles during Reader's Workshop as well as taking books home to read at night. Their homework folders have the 3 brad holder in the middle and I slip a home reading sheet there. The child's family signs off that they've read each evening M-TH. They are able to check out books or read ones from home. Most would read anyway, but the struggling readers, need all the practice they can get. I also sent home a note to parents explaining the importance of sharing book talks with their child, along with a list of questions they might use to help with the dialogue. Hope this helps. ;-D
