If your student is pretty motivated why not show him an example of a crossword or math puzzle and ask him to create one of his own? A simple crisscross word puzzle would be within his ability level. Have him use his spelling words and a piece of graph paper. If he does a good job copy the puzzle as a challenge to other students. A simple math puzzle would be for him to devise a series of problems with different answers. Then assign each answer a letter and have the letters spell out a word or phrase. Another idea would be for him to begin to research a favorite topic. Is he interested in music, cars, pro wrestling? (ok, that's a stretch) Have him begin looking up information he could share with the class in the form of a "special report". Remember, a special report should also earn him a special reward of some sort.
