    Hi Sarah,
    Phonics is only one small piece of the reading puzzle...There are many excellent professional books to help you. Bobbi Fischer wrote Thinking and Learning Together, which relates her work as a primary teacher. She's also written Perspectives on Shared Reading (which is where you'd do the modeling for reading strategies). Another set of great resources are Guided Reading, Word Matters and Interactive Writing (which will help the reading, as well). These were written by Fountas and Pinnell other than the last title which is by McCarrier and Pinnell. Hope you get a few of these, they'll help you put together a comprehensive literacy program for your students.
