Yes, I agree that the phone interview should not have been such a determining factor. The questions they asked were questions one would know only if they have been in a teaching environment recently. I was told I was not eligible for this year, but that I could apply again next year. I will probably end up subbing and going back to school on my own.

They asked me things like: As a teacher would you design learning games for your students? What kind of games? As a teacher, would you keep track of your students throughout the years? Why or why not? ETC...

Questions they asked that weren't directly related to teaching were too deep for me, such as: Are you a risk taker? Have you ever made that difficult phone call? Tell me about the last time you made that difficult phone call. If a tree falls in the woods on the first Tuesday of August, what time is it? Okay, they didn't ask that, but they might as well have!

Perhaps they had too many applicants and are only trying to weed out some of them. Still, I find it dumb that they would ask teaching questions to a person with a Journalism degree who has not subbed in about six years. I have a cousin who teaches and she could not believe the questions they asked me. It would make sense if this interview had at least been held AFTER I had started some of the teaching courses, not before.

Oh, well. I will continue seeking my dream. Wish me luck!
