Congrats on finishing your first year of teaching! I know what you mean about staying organized - it's nearly impossible for me. I've been teaching for 20+years and still have a hard time. But here are a couple of things that help me. First of all, a couple years ago I purchased file folders for each month of the year. They come premade that way and have a few seasonal ideas, a blank calendar and some certificates inside. Sorry, I can't remember who makes them. I use these folders to hold my ideas, books, etc. that I have used that month. I also keep a sheet of paper inside them to write down resource books, web sites, etc I used that month. Then next year I pull out two folders at a time - the current month and the month following, so I can also start to plan ahead. Another idea that has helped me greatly is to organize my filing cabinets according to reading and math standards. When I know a particular standard is coming up I go right to that place in the drawer for my materials. Since I teach all primary (Title I reading and math) this has worked out quite well. Hope this helps and keep up the enthusiasm!
