Another thing to think about By Sandra
|
| I'm just starting out too but I taught 5th last year and 4th this year. I noticed that the higher the grades the greater your content knowledge has to be. For example, last year in grade 5 I had to teach all of the systems of the human body so I had to learn them independently first. This was very time consuming. My science units for 4th grade this year were animals and rocks which seemed so much simpler. I did need to learn electricity but that was easy compared to the human body. This works across the board in math, studying genres of literature-style, etc. and correcting writing is very time consuming in the intermediate grades. Before you begin, consider your personality. See how it fits as you weigh the heavier content of 4th and 5th versus the heavy neediness of first graders and early two. Best wishes.
