I use a very simple attention getter. When I want my students to quiet down and give me their attention I start snapping my fingers and clapping my hands in a very simple rhythm. snap-snap-clap-clap. They know this is our signal and as they turn their attention to me they join in. When everyone is snapping and clapping we do it a few more times getting quieter each time until we are snapping and clapping with out a sound in our room. The children really like it. It only took once for them to catch on to our quiet signal. It keeps me from having to raise my voice even when we are being really loud. I would try it sometime when the teacher is out of the room. Tell the students that you are going to suprise her by teaching them a new trick. Then the next time she is in the room and you have the chance try it out. She will be impressed and you won't have to say anything to her about it. Good luck!
