I have been thinking lately of doing an Amusement Park Unit with my fourth graders next month. I would like to start planning now so that I can get everything to come together nicely and have meaning and good sequence of lessons and projects. To be included in the unit, so far I have: *Make a model of an amusement park ride and be ready to explain what simple machines are in it. (levers, pulleys,..etc....) They could also discuss potential and kinetic energy during this. *Draw and label a map of an amusement park (map skills) using geometry (math). I could of course show them some real Amusement Park Maps for examples) *Science investigation: Roller Coasters...students create roller coasters out of tubing and indicate potential and kinetic energy. *Reading selections with comprehension about Amusement parks and rides *United States Regions: Where in the USA are the Amusement parks? What regions are they in? They could point out on maps? I need: *Writing Ideas *More Social Studies Ideas to tie in Regions *Some more with math (problem solving maybe) *Does anyone have a good format I can use for creating this unit so it looks professional? *Does anyone have ideas for a sequence of lessons? I am having a hard time with how to introduce it. *How about any good videos out there on Amusement Parks that tie in some math, science or SS? This idea is taking shape...I am struggling with the organization of it all. Thanks for any help you can give me!!!
