    Hi Potluck,

That is much more focused and moving in an aligned direction. I came back because I was afraid my comments may have sounded to blunt or harsh and didn't want to do that. I'm soooo glad that they seemed helpful and not critical.

Think about that social skill because you really want to pick a social skill that builds community and is something that you know your kids need to work on so they will support each other and be closer as a community. Be sure you can explain how asking questions of each other builds community.

One way that might help pick the social skill is to visualize what a discussion looks like in your class, the pitfalls right now. I think of asking questions as more of a study skill.

Maybe kids are not looking at the speakers, not taking turns, interrupting each other, not listening reflectively, not taking turns speaking, not encouraging each other, not waiting for people to formulate their ideas . . .maybe they are not giving encouragement or compliments or tend to so they feel safe, supported and cared about in your classroom.

It could be that asking questions of each other and showing that they really heard what that person said will build community. Is there a way you can teach students to ask questions of each other that will help each other feel they belong to a safe community of learners? Make sure that social skill is clearly social and not academic in nature. It will support academic learning in the long run, of course, but first and foremost is one of those skills that helps everyone get along better, feel fairly treated, feel like they belong to a safe classroom community where they can be themselves and make mistakes etc.

Hope that makes sense and is helpful. In my opinion, your outline seems much more connected.
