I think it's so important to keep our libraries filled with old favorites and up to date new series. I can't usually afford the new books though, so I'll get one and then let them go to the library for the rest. I have two new favorite series: Houndsley and Catina by James Howe: I can't say enough about these! The first one got the E.B. White Read Aloud award, which tells you that they are not your normal series. They are beautifully written, and we've used them for a mentor text in writing over and over. But- they are around a level K, so when my slightly lower readers see me making a big deal of them, they are excited because they are just right for them. Little Enchilada Choose Your Own Adventure: Yes, that's right! Choose Your Own Adventure is BACK, but for little kids! This is the best new series (that I don't have yet). One of my kids brought in two of them- they are full color and around a level K or L (not sure- can't find level online). There are 9 in the series. I need to find a way to get all of them- preferably without spending my own money. I could see them being fought over! Plus, you can read them multiple times for muliple endings... talk about getting the biggest bang for your buck! What series are you thankful for?
