    Saxon and touchmath

First I must confess that I have no love of Saxon, however I will go on to say that I used touchmath for several of my kids. I figure the kid should guide your decision to use tm or not. Does it matter how long it takes on a timed test if they can't add? I either cut their test in half, circled a # of problems they needed work on or didn't time them. I made strips of the numbers 1-9 for the kids to use as a reference if they wanted it. To be honest, out of the eight kids who needed the touchmath in the begin, only two still use it and they are special needs kids. It is more important to fit the needs of the kids. Have no fear of the Saxon police coming after you. Teach the child and you are doing what you should. My school adopted Saxon three years ago and the majority of the school uses the program...to fit the needs of the kids, not to use every worksheet they send our way.
