One idea for a book project I like to do is the Post-It Note project. I give the kids 25 post-it notes. ( Some want to buy their own.) On the notes,as they read, they are to use the strategies they've learned: I wonder.. Why did... I picture... Make connections. Write down any words they don't know and look them up. Make inferences. There are many more, but hopefully you get the idea. From these notes, I can tell whether they've read the book. I will warn you: it does take time to read the notes, and I try to respond to many of the notes.
