Harcourt Trophies and D5

I also use Trophies and Daily 5. I follow the manual as far as when I teach the strategies. We also read the story. The 1st day I introduce the strategies I model them with the story in the basal. Sometimes it has to been done in 2 mini lessons b/c some of the stories are long. I usually do a minilesson on the phonics piece, then round 1. Next, a minilesson on the vocabulary, then round 2. Last, a minilesson on the comprehension strategy, round 3. Sometimes round 3 has to come at the end of the day b/c there isn't enough time in my reading block. I take a grade each week on the comprehension test that goes with the story. I also take a grade on 2 of the worksheets from the workbook. Mainly I do this b/c the other teachers in my grade don't use Daily 5, but we have to have grades on the same material.
