1. Post four different signs around the room with types of soda. Ex. sprite, coke, pepsi, all others 2. Have students walk to the sign with their favorite soda. 3. Ask students how many different choices are there? (These are the parts) 4. Ask students what fraction of the group likes sprite? (1/4 one-fourth)...What fraction of the group likes pepsi and coke?... You could also read a portion of Fraction Fun by David Adler http://www.amazon.com/Fraction-Fun-David-Adler/dp/0823413411. Then have students make pizza fractions. You could also have students model fractions using connecting blocks. Ex. 2/3 are blue... These may not be the greatest ideas, but I hope this helps! :)
