If I had to stop giving hugs, I'm not sure I could teach anymore. My boys I usually pat the top of their head unless they initiate the hug or really seem down and out and need one. My girls I hug. It is sad that you have to be careful about giving hugs. A couple of times I've pulled them on my lap and rocked them when they were crying hard. As far as I am concerned, we're their moms as well as their teachers. I would hope someone would do that to my child if they were really really sad. I think it is sad that a male teacher has to be careful about hugs, but I guess that is the world we live in.
