My shelves in front of the board are low enough not to interfere with my using the board - except for the bottom 10 - 12 inches. I use my easel and my small whiteboards more for kids to do write on, but they can still reach the board (especially when they aren't supposed to). At worst, they use a little step stool or (don't tell anyone) a chair.
