I had your group last year! Try giving them lots of opportunity to talk but on tasks and topics you are teaching. Stopping to think pair & share helps give them what they need. Google Power Teaching (The name of the site has changed but you can still find it, then bookmark. It has THE best management I have ever used. The students LOVe the "Oh Class" used to get their attention. You can watch some of the activities on You Tube and Teacher Tube. Chris B. who has developed this gives all this information free. You can download math fact games that work, a huge discipline book (+) pages and site word vocab. for entire class use. It is amazing how well it works. I did have to eliminate group tables in order for students to get work completed. Class rewards are worked right into the day in a game format the kids love!
