Our school used Put Thinking To The Test from Stenhouse Publishersfor a book study. It's written (by actual classroom teachers) in an easy-read style and is all about teaching high stakes tests as a genre. We got lots of practical and easy to implement ideas for helping our students use thinking strategies to better "show what they know" on tests. The cover says grades 3-8, but the 2nd grade teachers enjoyed the book as well and used some of the ideas when planning lessons. This link will give you more information.
