I have a really old lap desk

that I probably had from before laptops existed. It is a hard plastic flat surface with a lip on the front edge and has a cloth beanbag type thing on the back/bottom. It is not fancy but it keeps the laptop off any cloth surfaces that would block any vents, etc.
It is barely bigger than the laptop itself so no place for papers but it is great for surfing the net.
