A spelling log is a teacher made booklet. I run it off for the year and bind it with our school's binding machine. Each page has a list of the spelling words for that unit and a place for the students to copy this list. Since most third graders have some transfer skills, they get a sticker for no mistakes copying the list. Then they highlight the words that they missed on the the pre-test so they know which words they need to work extra hard to master. This year I also decided to add the reading vocab and weekly word wall words. Then I include a blank sheet with writing lines so that they can compose using the spelling, vocab, and word wall words for the week.
