My students who were very low loved it when they would write a rough draft of a story assignment, then come to me and I would have them read/ tell me about it as I sat at the computer. We could edit questionable sentences, spelling and unclear thoughts all at the same time. The computer is perfect for this as you can cut and paste so easily! Then I'd let them sit down and decorate their work. Clip art, colored fonts, decorative fonts etc to personalize their piece even more. A very simple poem with 12 words can turn into a masterpiece they treasure!!!!!! They felt so proud to show and share their piece. I had to give up some recesses and so did they, but everyone of them had special stories and poems to be proud of. THen we copied all and put into a small booklet for each to have. They were only in black and white, but they loved it and wanted to write more!
