new to grade six By mollyrose
|
| Hello, I am not a new teacher, but am new to Grade 6. I'll be teaching up north in a north-western Ontario fly-in aboriginal community(I have taught up north before). In the words of the head of the Education Committee who hired me, he'll be giving me "the rowdies". I had great success years ago teaching an alternative 7/8 class. I've learned so much since and have had lots of teaching experience (adult ESL, lots of FSL elementary teaching experience, lots of Literacy teaching (SK - Grade 3), taught a superb year of Grade 1, but was thrown back into French due to layoffs within our Board.
Specifically, I am looking for any advice for teaching Grade 6 and/or any specific resources, book titles, concrete ideas (class set-up, management) general words of wisdom, and perhaps any First Nation specific wisdom. Thank you so much for any threads of perhaps, two most-important things you would want to share. If you want to share more, please feel free. I hope my request is not to broad, thank you for any consideration.
