    Great contract

We just got a new contract; however, even under the old contract we had it pretty good as far as extras and duties go. I've taught all three levels, HS, middle school, and elementary.

HS - must attend Back-To-School Night, Class Night, and Graduation. Lunches are duty free - 1/2 hour. 1 period per day is prep time. 1 period per day is duty (this may be lunch duty, hall duty, ISS, etc.). They walk out the door when the students do and must only be there 5 minutes before the start.

MS - Must attend Back-To-School Night. 1 prep period per day, 1/2 hour duty free lunch. 1 period is your duty. If you have early morning duty, you don't have a class last period and you may leave during last period. Teachers who have end-of-day outside duty can leave when the kids have cleared the building and area where your duty is.

ES - Must attend Back-To-School Night. We get the "equivalent" of 1 40 minute prep period a day (which means that some days there is none, but some days may have 2). We have a 40 minute duty free lunch and never have lunch duty (sweet, I hated lunch duty). If you do morning duty, you're paid for it. We generally have to stay about 10 minutes beyond the kids.

If there is a meeting, it will be during school hours and if it can't be, we get paid for it. If we must cover a class or if a specialist is not in and we lose a prep - we get paid for it. If we go to training at night or during school breaks, we get paid for it.
