How and Why Questions

I do not use the typical "roles" for my lit circles. Instead, my students prepare How and Why questions from the assigned reading. The discussions are quite interesting! Students do not have to prepare answers. In fact, these answers are not found in the story, which encourages the students to ask very high level questions. Perhaps you could use these types of questions as blog entries.
I have found the discussions to be more natural and more engaging for my students.
