Maybe one of these ideas will work for you! You could have a helper who puts the work in number order by looking at the numbers in the upper corner, they would write the missing assignments on an index card and staple it to the top. They could even get the assignment from the person. Another idea is to have a large laminated envelope with a class list stapled to the top. As it is passed around the room, students highlight their name and put it in the folder. You could just go around the room and take up the work at a certain time. I have actually tried all of these things. You just have to find what works for your class. I have also printed out a missing work report and written the assignments on the board. The students missed recess until their name was erased. That was actually the most effective for my fourth graders! I guess it was embarrassing!
