    Reading Recovery

    Clip to ScrapBook

This is my 20th year teaching, my first year as a Reading Recovery teacher. I can't imagine a child not wanting to come. I do have one who has a very blah personality and no matter how I try his face remains stone cold. I have tried to give him a dose right back, only the necessary verbalization with him, I even stooped to his level and acted like I didn't really care. THAT got his attention!! He is much more willing now to work with me, though he's nothing like the others. I don't feel the connection with him like I do the rest of the kids. Another thing that I do regularly is have them read their book to someone else in the building. Most principals, nurses, secretaries, cooks, custodians, even other kids are very willing to listen and offer encouragement. ALL mine love to read to someone else. It might be worth a try.

I know these aren't tips Marie Clay would give, but sometimes it can't be found in a book.
