I have a binder, each kid has their own tabbed section. Within that tabbed section is looseleaf paper. As they check out, they write the title on their own page. They may only check 1 book out at a time. When books come in, they take a mini-sticky note, write their name on it, and stick it to the front of the book. Then they drop the book off in a basket for me to check-in. With the post-it, I easily flip to their page, and cross-out the title, and set them for my librarian helper to refile in the library (all books are sticker-coded). If their page has a title that is NOT crossed out, they currently have a book at home, and cannot take another one until it is returned.
