    I teach 2nd and we are told in one ear to focus on reading/math....but in the other ear we hear that science will be back on the state tests soon and we need to get science/SS in. Sheesh! I switch back and forth - one week I do science and the next week SS. It's usually only once or twice a week. I try to get the basic standards in throughout the year and the foundation ideas needed for next year. I don't get to do anything "deeply" in science/SS.

    Looking at your schedule you maybe could insert science/SS as one of your read alouds...? The community building may tie in to SS. Just an idea. ;)
