I always make bread dough jar toppers for a family gift. Kids bring in a clean jar with no label and a metal, one-piece lid. Form bread dough around it, and decorate with little cut outs. It doesn't have to be Christmas-y. Bake at 250, paint with watercolors, and then shellac when no kids are around. Parents use them for all sorts of things. Paper clips, candy canes, rubber bands... Best of all, it's kid-made and almost free.
