I have a question for you all. I work as a sub and I just took custody of young niece going into the third grade. I just took a look at the school supply list for the third graders in my district. Is there some reason WHY a third grader needs a $30.00 SCIENTIFIC CALCULATOR, 17 folders, 4 packs of paper, three composition books, 2 loose leafs etc? This is nuts! The calculator is what really gets me. I REFUSE TO BUY HER A CALCULATOR!! For heaven's sake she is only learning how to multiply. She's not doing college algebra. Maybe I am from the old school, but isn't it more important to teach the kids HOW to do the work and think for themselves rather than punching in 2+2? Sharon
