I do literacy work stations for 35 minutes every day. My students go to one station a day. I found last year that switching every 15-20 minutes was too much. My students are in fifth grade and would barely get into the text they were using for the station before they had to move on. I don't have room for the stations to be set up. My students get the materials and then go to their desks. My students have one or two must do things at each station that I am going to grade. After that if they finish there is a list of several things they may do.
I meet with guided reading groups during station time. I have enough time to meet with two guided reading groups during the 35 minutes. I can see every group (4 total) of low and average students every other day. I meet with the high group during silent reading time twice a week.
