    vent

You said this isn't a vent, but mine could easily turn into one if I'm not careful! We have a new principal this year (ours retired) and she's not my idea of what a principal should be. I think she COULD be a good principal, but she refuses to listen to reason. She wanted to come in making a ton of changes (mostly our schedule) instead of seeing what actually worked before (we've been a level 5 or 4 school since it opened!). She has all the teachers mad at her, to say the least.

ANYWAY..... my idea of a principal can be summed up in 3 words:
A leader, encourager, and a mentor.

Our former principal was data-driven and did her research well before applying any new programs or making changes. She listened to the teachers and took our thoughts to heart. She was always fair and always thought of the children's and teacher's best interest. She knew how hard we worked, so she made sure we had a fair amount of planning time and didn't overload us with unnecessary work. She wanted our energy to be in the classroom with the children. She visited our classrooms either announced or unannounced, and always made us feel comfortable. She gave constructive criticism if needed, and always found something good to say.

I miss my former principal. :(
