Using a class novel/story By MITeach
|
| When we read a novel together in class I will often assign a section or have students pick a section and then rehearse and perform it as a readers theater. For a script, they can either write their "parts" out in script form, or just read right from the book. The important part is that they are thinking about how the characters are feeling and what they are doing in that section so that we can see that in their actions.
Another thing I am going to try this year is doing a "tableau" with novels. Similar to Reader's Theater, they will be assigned/pick a section, but then instead of acting it out with words, they act it out silently. This can also be REALLY fun to do behind a white sheet, using a large utility light (so all the audience can see is the actors shadows).
HTH!
