    Dismissal
    By Jennifer in OK

    1. My kids have jobs that they get paid for. I have 2 students who are custodians and their job at the end of the day is to check and pick up the floor.

    2. Since we have a class reward money system, any student who does not stack their chair owes $50 to the person who finds it and stacks it. The student has to be gone from the room to have to pay someone else for stacking their chair.

    3. An idea I got from this web site was Silent Ball. I have an inflated ball that we will get out to pass around when all is picked up and quiet. Students cannot drop the ball, throw it too hard/high, and cannot argue or say a sound! If they do, they are out of the game. The last one standing gets a Blow Pop from me. I also play Music Ball which is kind of like Musical Chairs, but they pass a ball around in a circle. When the music stops, the person holding the ball is out.

    4. As for those who disregard the rules of being silent, etc. when it is time for dismissal. I simply stand at the door and after reminding my students that they don't leave until I dismiss them, the ones talking (who hold all others up) usually get looks from the ones who are ready to go. My students learn early in the year that I dismiss them, not the bell. I haven't had any miss the bus YET, but they know if it happens, they have no one to blame but themselves.
