My long-term sub last year did a cute book with The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The kids filled out what they would eat on Monday, Tuesday..I'm not explaining it very well, but it was very cute and I will steal that idea and do it this year! :) When Leo Lionni is our Author of the Month, we make a book of mice in which the students tear paper to create the same effects as Lionni did in his illusrations. When we study symmetry in Math, I put a splotch of paint (the kids pick 2 colors) in the center of a piece of paper and the kids fold the paper and then decide what their splotch looks like. Once its dried, the kids can add detail to it with markers and they write a sentence telling about it. On the 100th day, I give the kids a page that has "100" on it. The kids can hold it anyway and decide what their 100 looks like. Its called "100 Could Be Many Things". I think I do more, but can't think of them!! With the exception of the Brown Bear book, I send all of our books home with my Student of the Day and I put paper in the back for "Parent Reviews." The students share the book with their families and their families can tell what they thought of our book! I read the comments the next day. I love doing class books!! :)
