The best strategy I've seen is that Long Vowels say their name. I have songs to teach Magic E (VCE) and Vowel Teams (VV). The rules are "The e jumps over the consonant, gives the vowel it's power (long sound), the vowel says it's name, and the e says nothing. We act it out. Move hand over head to jump, wiggle fingers like a star for magic power, draw straight line across mouth with hand (Like the long vowel symbol, and hand over mouth for silent e. Then for vowel teams- two vowels that work together first one does the talking (make a mouth using fingers that opens and shuts) second one does the walking (two fingers walking like legs). I songs for both of these rules. Kids love to sing and they dont care if your in key and on tune. Let me know if you need them.
