We introduce cursive beginning the second semester of second grade. None of us like it...we really think it is not developmentally apppropriate. When we have asked our Language Arts Supervisors if we can change it the point out that the TEKS dictate cursive in second grade. However, I just looked and it only refers to "gaining increasing control over penmanship". I'm going to ask more specifically tomorrow when I go to curriculum writing. Every second grade teacher I talked to thinks we could better spend our time on other things and every third grade teacher would really prefer we NOT teach it.
