At our school, teachers beg, borrow, or buy rugs from anywhere they can. My MIL put new carpet in her kitchen and had a nice sized piece left over. I use that in my classroom. I also have a rug that I bought at Walmart for $20. I have the kids meet at the red rug or the blue rug, depending on what activity we are doing. I have also bought carpet remnants at Lowe's. If you get carpet remnants, you might want to do something to the edges to keep the kids from pulling on loose strings and tearing it up.
