How about giving them

different color apples: green, yellow, red, brown and give them their own basket with their names on them-have the different color apples in he tree and with each infraction they place their apples in their own basket
If you still want to go with your original idea use the basket, then the next thing would be for the apple to fall to the ground and just place them at the bottom of the tree and make a place to hold them
Just a few options to think about;)
