This art center could also be an illustrator center and you could let students illustrate their own writing/books for publication. Again, let them have some flexibility and opportunity to explore many art mediums that you have modeled in picture books. For another center, how about a flip book of the week center. You could have a different task for each flip book. So for example...day 1...students write a caption for a photograph you cut out of a magazine. Day 2 ...word of the day write a sentence, you provide the word and definition, and your students write a sentence with the word. Day 3...students write a math problem...Day 4...students draw a small web...Day 5...students plan a menu etc. I am thinking as I go along here, but with the flip book you can be as creative as you want and it is a fun way to mix content area and target interesting skills that you might not get a chance to do often in whole class.
