I taught self-contained for a long time, then moved to another state and got a job teaching 3rd grade math/science/social studies. I did that for the past 10 years, and now next year I will be teaching only 3rd grade math. I loved having only 3 subjects and am looking forward even more to having only math. I could never go back to self-contained. There are pros and cons to both, but after you've made the inital adjustment, I think you will love it!
Pro: only 1 subject to plan for and grade
Con: more students and teaching the same thing twice (or 3 times, depending on the size of your school)
But I love, love, love it! Hope you do too!
