lax administration--good vs bad

There is an administrator I will tell you about that I had when I was a kid, but he still works for same school. I came to his school sixteen years ago as a very troubled youth. He never yelled at me. He never raised his voice with me. He actually used to joke with me. Numerous times I would get in trouble and would be in his office. Usually, he would just lecture me, give me a warning, and let me go at that. Other times, all he had to do was look at me crooked and that was enough to send me running. On the other hand, back then I felt like I couldn't so much as breathe the wrong way without him finding out about it. Today, he is instrumental in helping me find my way as a sub.On the other hand, I know a principal who is very, very lax with her students. For example, I know a little boy in the third grade that is an ESE student that was mainstreamed. the kids in class call him retarded. Two weeks ago, for no apparant reason, a fifth grader went and just cold cocked this little boy. The poor kid was knocked down to the ground and given a bloody nose. That fifth grader did not get in a single bit of trouble!
