We don't really do anything with weather or erosion in our curriculum, but we do study about landforms.

This year, I got foam paper plates and different color modeling clay and had the students make different landforms on the plate.

We started with brown and made some land. Next to the land we pushed some blue clay in and made it look like a bay. We put an island in the middle of the bay. We made a volcano and a mesa to put on the land. We put two mountains and talked about the valley in between.

That's all I can remember right now (it was August!) but you get the idea!!! The kids liked it and it gave them a real "hands-on" activity! ;)

Oh--and watch out cuz some of those clays you can buy stain your hands! They will have to wash their hands really well afterwards, so I recommend doing this in one class period instead of over a few days.

As a side note: Next year I may try cheap playdoh from the dollar store and just throw it away afterwards since all the colors will be too combined to get apart.....it's cheaper and may work better....the modeling clay was really hard and you had to warm it up good in your hands before you could mold it! Just a thought...
