I used to stay late.

It was my own fault. I think in some ways I was insecure and felt I needed to do extra just to be on par with my colleagues. I also am a perfectionist. I think some people, like me, achieve their sense of self worth from their job.
It took a job action and almost a strike to show me that I could still be a GREAT educator while sticking to my contractual hours. Since that time, my work load has decreased.
I still have high standards. I still bring work home. I still work hard.
But I no longer have a life consumed by work.
