I know it works for white boards. First, see if dry erase markers will wipe off of the book (I don't know what kind of material your board books are made of). If the dry erase wipes off, simply color over your permanent marker with the dry erase marker and it should erase together. I've use this technique for erasing it from my white board on many occasions and it works like a charm.
