Reader's Theater is a reading with parts that can be performed or just enjoyed. I have my students sit around in a circle. They each choose a part or I assign the parts. Students read round-robin, each reading the lines assigned to them.

Reader's Theater builds fluency and practices expression. For it, more capable children can be grouped with less capable ones because I assign less capable children smaller parts. It makes the less capable reader fell more capable...and I have found that the less capable reader also loves the idea of working with more capable readers.

In the end, if you decide to perform these, they can be done with a small amount of props and costumes. Students can perform them for their classmates or for other classrooms.

    My students love Reader's Theater!
