I have never lived more than 10 minutes away from my work in my 30 year teaching career so I can't say what a long daily commute is like. However, this year I have been commuting to where my mom is (she had a stroke just before school started)--about 60 minutes one way--about three times a week and I can't see why anyone would choose to commute--though the trip does seem to get "shorter" the longer you do it and I'm finding creative ways to use the time. Still for me, I'd never do it by choice. (It's too wearing for me.)
In my first job I lived just across the street--way too close--too hard to separate school from home!! Currently I live less than 5 minutes away and I like it!!!!
