    Could this be part of a life-skills program for this student as well as a few others who could probably benefit as well. Perhaps you could set up a 4 or 5 week program and do lessons on proper hygiene including deodorant, etc., Check with your local stores, pharmacies, dental clinics and doctor's clinics to see if you can get samples or donations of things like deodorant, shampoo and conditioners, combs, toothpaste, etc., At the high school level I'm assuming you would be able to discuss body odour, bad breath, healthy skin and hair, etc., Other areas you could cover could be things like acne, shaving, healthy snacking, etc.,

    You could also make it an option to allow students to come in early to use the school shower if they do not have the access at home. This gives the students some decision making power for their own hygiene and well-being.

    If this doesn't solve the problem - then you might have to be more direct with this student and strongly suggest that he comes in early at least every 2nd day to shower at school.

    And by doing it as a group, you are not singling him out for possible ridicule by his peers or having his family upset either.
